Futon Mattress Uses

A futon mattress can not only be used to place on futons, but it can also be used in so many ways. So many people find themselves with a broken futon frame and an empty mattress. They don’t know if they should throw it away or keep it. Knowing what else it can be used for will come in handy. Below are ways that this piece of furniture can be reused.

1) Sleeping on

Japanese people use the mattress without the futon frame. Many claims that putting it on the floor helps to keep the shape and increases the comfort towards your body and back. If you find yourself without a frame, consider putting the mattress on the floor and use it as a bed. You can either use it as a guest bed or someone in the family can use it as a bed. You can give it to your child to sleep on since this is easier than getting into a bed that can be too tall for your child. Sleeping on it without the frame is a great way to reuse it.

2) Play area

A good way to reuse futon mattresses is to set them up in the children’s play area. Children can play on the flat surface and if it is made out of cotton or foam, it will be pretty sturdy for children to crawl or walk on. Unlike a bed made of innerspring, the futon is flatter so it won’t be as bouncy. This makes it easier for children to play on.

3) Floor couch

Another way to reuse it is to put it on the floor or against the wall and use it as a floor couch. Get big comfy pillows to lean against the wall and put a throw in the area. You will then have a great reading area to relax in as well as one to take a quick nap on if you don’t want to nap in your bed.

4) Outdoor rest area

If you don’t know what to do with the mattress indoors, consider putting your futon outdoors. It would be a great item to leave in an outdoor area for you to lie on. When you want to have a picnic or want to sit in the sun to read or just want to relax outside, the futon mattress becomes a great item since you won’t feel the sharp blades of grass or the hard surface of the ground.

5) Catch-all for a children’s play area

If you have a children’s jungle gym or climbing set or anything of that sort, put the futon underneath so it will cushion any potential falls that often occur when children are playing and running around. This will increase safety in the area. Children can also relax on it when they are tired of playing.

Used furniture like a mattress can be re-used in so many different and creative ways, especially without the futon frame. Consider one of the above options before disposing of your futon mattresses.
