Cleaning Urine Out of a Mattress

Cleaning urine on a mattress is one of those household tasks that no one wants to do but has to. After all, your family’s health and sanitation are involved here so you need to clean it out as soon as possible. Contrary to popular belief though, it is quite easy to do and requires little effort.

Some basic knowledge of cleaning urine on a mattress is all it takes for you to accomplish this task easily. You need to prepare a few basic items to work with such as paper towels, clean cloth, vinegar, and baking soda.

Use an old towel or paper towel to blot the urine-stained area of your mattress. Avoid pressing on too hard with the towel into the mattress as it will only cause the liquid to penetrate much deeper into the mattress, thus making it more difficult to remove the odor.

At this point, you must use the baking soda to cover the stained area. There are two reasons for using the baking soda to cleaning urine on a mattress.

  • First, it helps to absorb all the excess moisture that you were unable to remove using paper towels alone.
  • Second, it also combats the odor that is left behind by the urine once the liquid or moisture is removed. Allow the baking soda to sit for up to an hour before vacuum cleaning it.

Another technique you can use when cleaning urine on a mattress is to mix water and vinegar into a spray bottle. Add equal parts of both ingredients then apply it into the affected area. After that, scrub the stained area and remove any residue from the urine, along with the unpleasant odor.
