Cons of Air Mattress || Before you decide to buy

It is important to know the advantages and disadvantages of an air mattress before making a purchase decision. And as we learned about all the advantages of the air mattress, let’s learn about the disadvantages of this type of mattress.

Things that might make you think twice before buying an air mattress

1. Low Temperature Regulation

One of the common problems of air mattresses is the low temperature regulation problem. The synthetic materials from which air mattresses are made, like vinyl, do not regulate temperature very well.

In summer, air mattresses hold the hot air surrounding the mattress and cause you to sweat and be uncomfortable during sleep. The mattress also does not regulate the temperature your body generates during sleep which also can be so irritating.

This condition can be very bad for your skin and can also affect the quality of your sleep negatively. In cold weather, the mattress traps the cold air surrounding the bed and keeps you very cold at night which is a result of low temperature regulation.

2. Vulnerable to Punctures

An air mattress is vulnerable to punctures. An air mattress can get punctured easily, and this is one of the problems that face most people using air beds.

Any sharp object you might not notice on the floor can cause the mattress to get punctured easily. If you’re using the mattress outdoors for camping, it can be more exposed to punctures because it’s hard to be careful on the rough ground.

However, you can still try your best by using a blanket under the mattress in case you’re using it outdoors. If you use it at home, you can avoid punctures , how?
Place the mattress on a clean surface and make sure that you inflate and deflate it on a clean floor.

You also need to avoid inflating and deflating the mattress constantly unless you need that because this affects the material of the mattress and makes it more vulnerable.

3. Air Leak

Air leak is another problem you can face with an air mattress. With long-term use, air leaks can happen, causing the mattress to deflate quickly in a short time.

Sometimes the problem is aggravated when the quality of the mattress is not that good and the stitching is bad which causes leaks to happen at the seams.

To avoid this, you need to purchase only a mattress of good quality. You should also avoid deflating the mattress constants unless it’s necessary.

4. Noisy Pump

Many people complain about the noise an air pump makes during inflating and deflating an air mattress. However, the case is not the same with all air mattresses.

The quality and the brand of the mattress can influence this problem. In all cases, the problem occurs during inflation and deflation only, and there’s nothing to worry about apart from that.

5. Short Warranty

Another disadvantage of air mattresses is the short warranty. Air mattresses have a shorter warranty than other types of mattresses.

This means that if anything happens with the mattress, such as a problem with the air pump, you’ll have to pay for it if your mattress is no longer under warranty.

How to Solve the Problem of a Cold Air Mattress

The air mattress may be suitable for use in the summer due to the coldness that you may notice when lying in bed. But for some, it may turn into a real problem in the winter.

To stay warm on an air mattress, you can try using a mattress topper on it. Using a mattress topper will create a layer between your body and the mattress and, hence, will prevent you from feeling the cold of the mattress.

It will function as an insulating layer to keep you warm during sleep. Another thing you can try is putting a blanket under your air mattress.

This again will help the mattress not to be placed directly on the cold floor so that the cold won’t reach your body.

You can also try using a blanket on the mattress if you don’t have a topper; it will serve the same purpose.
